Sustainability

  • Rammed Earth is a technique for building walls using natural raw materials such as earth, chalk, lime or gravel.  It is an ancient building method that has seen a revival in recent years as people seek more sustainable building materials and natural building methods. Rammed-earth walls are simple to construct, noncombustible, thermally massive, strong, and durable.

  • Radiant tubes are a modern underflow heating system using a hydronic system to heat the floor and will be used throughout the park.

  • A ground-coupled heat exchanger is an underground heat exchanger that can capture heat from and/or dissipate heat to the ground. They use the Earth's near constant subterranean temperature to warm or cool air or other fluids for residential, agricultural or industrial uses. If building air is blown through the heat exchanger for heat recovery ventilation, they are called earth tubes (also known as earth cooling tubes or earth warming tubes).

  • We will create beautiful sensory gardens in our landscape that appeal to the other four senses as much as visually.  This will be a truly unique and educational experience for all ages.

  • We will utilize permeable paving for the hard surfaces.  This will allow us to harvest water to use for irrigation, water features and flushing the toilets.

  • Cherokee Community Villages water features will use harvested water to look spectacular and create a sanctuary for local song bird.  This will provide a cooler microclimate of shade and air movement.  Enjoy the feel of an oasis during our very hot Georgia summers!

  • We will create covered parking using heat absorbing surfaces.  This allows us to catch more rain water and keeps the temperature surrounding parking areas cooler!

  • Our rooftops will be green.  We will have grass covered rooftops for our buildings.  This sustainable method allows us to insulate our buildings more efficiently, utilize roof space with activities, as well as absorb/disperse heat more efficiently.

  • Recycling will be a huge part of Cherokee Community Villages mantra, and not just in the sense that most people think of when they hear the word “recycle”.  We will show examples throughout our park of recycled building methods and features built with primarily recycled materials. We will educate our community on the newest methods and the impact of recycling.  Our Park will provide a wonderful classroom to teach the importance of recycling to the sustainability of our earth.

  • We will implement Green Living Walls into our buildings.  This is truly a remarkable feature that promotes air flow and a wonderful aesthetic.

  • Our Park will utilize Solar Panels to power certain features when possible.  All of our sustainable power generating methods together will reduce the amount of energy the active systems need to generate.  The mechanical, electrical and plumbing components (day lighting, heat, air conditioning, fresh air intake, living wall irrigation etc.) will be automated to work at the highest efficiency but will include manual overrides in spaces where it is desirable.  This will contribute to our goal of net zero energy use for a typical year

  • We will feature one of the newest sustainability methods to come from waste management.  Our Cherokee Park will bring the first Solar Powered Trash Compactor to Cherokee.  This new product has been implemented in a few major cities with overwhelmingly positive results.

  • Harvested Water will be collected by various collection methods in and around Our Park.  We will use rooftops, gutters, covered parking and more to collect water to be stored for use in our underground reservoirs.
